About Ms. Jenny
Hello! My name is Jenny Johnson-Blanchard, and I am the 1st grade ESL Science teacher at Andersen United for the Developmental Dual Language classrooms. This year I am working with first grade classroom teachers Mr. Tony, Ms. Valedon, and Ms. McLean to teach science content and English language writing, reading, speaking, and listening. We especially are focusing on developing the oral language components of speaking and listening, so that students will have a strong foundation for developing literacy skills in English. Hence, our classrooms are very interactive!
This is my second year at Andersen United and in the Minneapolis Public Schools district. Prior to Andersen I taught middle school Spanish and ELL in Austin, Minnesota. Before that, I received my teaching license through the University of Minnesota teaching licensure program for Teaching ESL and Spanish as a World Language for grades K-12. I also received my Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Geography and a minor in Spanish.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my husband James, and play with our two dogs- Lua and Oz. We are recently married and live in a house in New Brighton, and our dogs love to run around in the yard. I also like to spend time outside, read, play capoeira, and exercise. Also, I very much enjoy traveling- I lived in Venezuela for a summer, and also have travelled to Mexico, Cuba, and Brasil.
I am looking forward to what this school year will bring, and I can't wait to learn alongside my students!
